The second leg of the Nissan Trailseeker MTB Series was located North of Pretoria at ARC Roodeplaat, the perfect host for the SA XCM Championships. This event is a bushveld haven and only a few minutes’ drive outside the city. Riders just can’t get enough of this location, yet another sell out event, with over 2800 participants.

New sections were added to the route to make it even more interesting for the SA XCM Champs and to test every rider’s skill and endurance. Robyn de Groot and Gert Heyns could be spotted in the Elite Ultra Marathon with game faces on the ready to defend their 2018 titles.

The Elite Ultra Marathon started off the day with a bang! You could just feel the adrenaline pumping and electric vibes at the start chute. Vanessa Bell and Francois Theron took the lead on the Specialized Levos to keep us updated on all things happening on route.

The pro men came out guns blazing today for the acclaimed title. From the start, a group of ten men split with Philip Buys, Gert Heyns, Arno du Toit, Pieter du Toit, Jan Withaar and Wessel Botha leading the bunch. After the technical sections and climbs a group of four took the lead and sprinted towards the finish. With great determination and drive, Arno du Toit took the win at Nissan Trailseeker Buffelsdrift and won the title of men’s SA XCM Champion.

In the women’s race there were four ladies who featured the entire race. Samantha Sanders, Sarah Hill, Robyn de Groot and Danielle Strydom. Robyn de Groot was on the heels of teammate Samantha Sanders, but Samantha ensured she kept the lead strong to ultimately take the win as the women’s SA XCM Champion.

Riders and spectators were spoiled with choices at the race village with brands like Bavaria, Devil’s Peak beer garden, food vendors and much more.

“We’re extremely proud of this event and how it progressed. Our team spends a lot of effort and time on the routes to create world-class events for our participants. The Nissan Trailseeker Series events are the perfect balance between elite riders and families taking part. Our aim is to get everyone moving and enjoy the outdoors as much as we do.

Next week we’re heading over to Hermanus for the first Nissan Trailseeker Series event in the Western Cape. The Hemel & Aarde route is back, and it’s going to be an amazing day out on the bike” Leon Odendaal – Race Director
